HBO’s series is a sequel to the story of the Alan Moore graphic novel, and addresses the very contemporary subjects of white supremacy, racism and vigilantism. One Of Us worked on a variety of environments, characters and effects – covering teleportation, an arctic lair, futuristic weaponry, an exploding coffin, and a self-lubricating vigilante.

Watchmen’s Legacy: Next-Level Cinematic TV VFX

Of the over 100 shots created by One of Us, the scene that caused them the most sleepless nights was the de-materialisation of Doctor Manhattan by the portal gun. “There were conceptual constraints,” notes Dominic Parker, Co-director at One of Us. “The effect had to be a variant on the teleportation we had seen earlier in the series, but where the previous one had been a planar surface, this had to be shot out of a gun.
